Other digestive disorders
As diarrhoea is usually a symptom of another health condition or some external factor, it is worth spending some time considering
digestive disorders and inflammatory bowel diseases if diarrhoea is a problem for you. If you have any concerns, always consult
your doctor.
You may be surprised to learn that there are more than 25 different conditions relating to the digestive system.
A broad range of health professionals (particularly natural health practitioners) place much emphasis on the health of the digestive
tract in terms of our overall health and well-being and, in particular, in terms of the robustness of our immune system.
This is because the most important part of your immune system is arguably in the gut! Gut Associated Lymphoid Tissue (or GALT) is
considered to be the largest collection of immune cells in the body - 70% of all antibody producing cells are located in the GALT.
The function of the GALT is primarily to prevent unwanted micro-organisms (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast and parasites)
from entering our bodies.
On the other health information pages of this website, we will look at some of the most common digestive disorders and their
potential links to diarrhoea. In particular, we will look at possible causes, symptoms and treatments.
